Wall Water Features

Wall Water Features Knowledge Base

Need Catchy Name for Rock Wall and Water Features Business; any ideas? Our rock wall business will serve mainly Utah. Main services include Rock Walls, Water Features, Walk-out basements, Outdoor Fireplaces/firepits and dug-out trampoline pits. I need a catchy name and a slogan for the business. It's worth some $$ to the winner I pick. I've racked my brain and all I have come up with are too corny.
how to reselve broken 4" pvc pipe inside of a water wall feature? would prefer to sleeve as this is a huge water wall at a commercial property so would prefer not to have to excavting the area
Is it possible to pump water from inside a liner to outside the liner without water leakage? I'm looking to add a water feature around our firepit which is 48" round. Is there a way to have the liner, which would line the dirt surrounding the cement firepit, pump water from the liner to a pvc tube that runs up the middle of the firepit wall? Essentially what I need to do is be able to pump water from inside the liner to outside the liner without it leaking (ie. the pvc tube running up the middle of the firepit would not be inside the liner). Is this possible? I have posted a picture to help understand what I'm trying to do. http://www.jodianderic.com/house/outside/waterpond.jpg One additional question I have is, how can I attach the liner to the concrete footing of the firepit?
Is it feasible to decorate an existing retaining wall? The house that my wife and I are buying has an unsightly 2-foot high cement retaining wall in the back yard. Is it feasible to decorate it by applying a facade? Also, I would like to build a water feature over it (small waterfall). How advisable would this be?
I've bought a waterfall kit from Home Depot and I'm wondering if I need anything else to keep the water clear? This what the product says online.---------This kit is an innovative addition to the water feature market. Kit can be used to create a waterfall on an existing or new pond. Kit comes complete with a 16 In. waterfall weir, an 1150 gph waterfall pump, 20 Ft. of 1 In. corrugated tubing, a 6 Ft. by 5 Ft. peice of PVC, liner and filter media. Waterfall weir creates a 16 In. wide wall of water. It is simple to install and creates a beautiful waterfall and sound of flowing water in your pond. Features a 2 year warranty on the pump
water feature built into hill? Hi, I'm working on a project and doing some precedent research. Does anyone know of a water feature that has been built into the topography of a hill so that it forms a wall where water is poured from the top onto the ground like a waterfall almost but the water is directed off to the side so that people can walk underneath it. I've found this one but it is not built into a natural hill: http://dpricejr.blogspot.com/2007/12/greenville-sc.html This would have to be for more of a park setting. If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them, Thanks! I'd also like to direct some excess water from the hill into a channel after it comes down to irrigate a small piece of land, probably from what overflows from the retention area of the water feature, but I've heard concerns that this would be difficult because as of now the hill has mostly sheet runoff. It is on the long side of a drumlin with maybe a 15% slope. If a few quick channels in its side would be enough to redirect just a bit of the water I'd try this but only if it was simple and low cost. I know that's kindof vague but if anyone can make sense out of that I'd love your opinions.
Rotating Circular Water Feature on Great Vacation Homes with Samantha Brown.? One of the episodes featured a large Solar Home somewhere in the US. I distinctly remember the owner having a basement full of train sets. He had this beautiful Kinetic Water Feature thst was attached to the garden wall. It rotates and small discs on it rotate as well. I think he said that he special ordered it from UK or something. Made from somekind of metal. Quite big too. 4-5 feet I think. Below it is an area of water. Quite possible that it acts as a pump. Can anyone tell me where did it come from and who manufactured it? Also I've been searching like crazy for it online but can't find any pictures. I will be very grateful if anyone manages to answer this question...Thanks...

Can i put a bubble wall in a saltwer fish tank that also has coral? I heard that if you put a bubble wall (pretty much an airstone) in a saltwater fishtank that this would decrease or increase the co2 levels in the water, which could effect the coral. In other words they won't like it much. If this is true can i control the co2 like the Ph is controlled. I really think a bubble wall will be a nice feature in my tank. It is only a 215ltre/55 gallon fish tank.
How can I compress jpg files to make much smaller files? Specifically, I have an entire directory showing photos of plants and hardscape features (i.e. patios, retaining walls, walkways, water features, nightlighting, etc.) I do AutoCAD drafting for a landscape company in Denver. We have a very old version of AutoCAD, but I've been able to import jpg files of photos into AutoCAD landscape designs (thankfully, we're updating or AutoCAD this winter!). My problem is that the inserted jpg files create HUGE AutoCAD files. I am trying to find a good, quick, efficient method to condense all of my photos so that they can be inserted into the CAD drawings. Any suggestions out there? Thanks! Sincerely, Dave Argenta Denver
Building a water feature.? Our factory manager has decided to start a competition on designing a water feature to be built by our works entrance. I've already got a design done but i'm unsure about a few things like the amount of concrete needed to build a base. The water feature will be built on a concrete base, the outside of the water feature will be a simple 2m x 2m square wall, 24 inches approx high built out of concrete blocks. I intend to line the blocks with marble tiles around the outside, top, and inside of the wall, also the base of the water feature. How would i make the wall waterproof? Also what's the best way to attach the marble tiles to the wall as well? I usually wouldn't bother but first prize is £500 quid so i want to give this a go.
I am a landscape designer. Are there job opportunities in Singapore for people like me? I can design landscapes for residential and commercial gardens, water features (ponds, waterfalls, fountains) and hardscapes like stone wall cladding, rock gardens, pocket gardens.
Should Malaysia build a wall around Singapore? Geological features allow us to build a wall around the tiny island and isolate them from the world. And place some AA guns on the wall just in case if they try to get around by air. The that island state would finally taught a lesson and stop demanding our water and sand and stop causing problems to Malaysia. I find the idea of wall quite interesting. or maybe Malaysia should sink the island instead? it won't take us much.... 'frankstronoch' is Lotus Love...shame on you! whooosh, so many Singaporeans on Malaysia site! I wonder what are they trying to achieve? smear up Malaysia? and I see all those "die hard" Malaysians who insult other people in posts are actually Singaporeans, they're no Malaysians!!! yes, I hope 1 day our govt extort all money from Singapore, they're such parasits!
how to install outside socket for water feature? I want to install a twin outside socket for a water feature and lawnmower etc, but don't know anything about electrics and can't afford to pay someone. What's easiest and cheapest way of doing this? Would something like this be ok? http://www.ukwaterfeatures.com/Shop/p-807-Twin-RCD-Outdoor-Wall-Socket-Kit.html best answer to anyone who explains simply (because i'm stupid)
Can I add dryer lint to concrete to help reinforce it for my water pond? I am redoing the walls on my water pond and I want to cement in some of the rocks because my dog keeps pushing them in. I know they sell stuff to add to concrete to help it hold up better when useing it on water features. But last time i checked I would have to order it and I am trying to save money. Do you think adding some dryer lint to the cocrete would do the same thing? I am cementing in rocks on the first shelf because my dog stands in the water to catch the fish and swim. could I use hair? or yarn? or peices of insulation? I thought concrete will crack if its under water for a long time /
Next door neighbours water feature help..? Wasn't sure where to put this decided to put it here and risk any of you being fans of garden features and telling me to get lost lol. Anyway I live with my parents and last year our next door neighbour moved in a man in his 60's and he's not intended to but he's done nothing but be annoying. He put 3 windchimes up that clashed all day and night with the wind and I tried ear plugs but they were still annoying so 7 months later plucked up the courage to go and tell him I iffered to buy him a cover for them but he kindly said it was ok and took them down. Since then though he's had a water feature thing for a year which he put on the side of his fence that my room is he turns it off at night but it gurgles from 7 am - 10pm everyday. In summer Ive always liked to work in my romm with the window open but the sound if it is just so annoying (its not particularly loud but annoying) I keep my window shut and be hot instead. Not only this but my parents let him covert his car port into a garage (he had to ask cause it meant the house wouldn't be (semi detached) but I can hear stuff banging against the wall everynight which again is annoying lol. Ok I realise that part of the problem is me being over sensitive to these things as a lot of people they wouldn't bother at all! Thing is I can't tell him firstly because i already complained about something last year and secondly he's not all that in the wrong, like I said its partly me. Just wanted some advice really as I can't pluck up the courage to ask him and wouldn't know what to say. *waits for insults off those with water features.*
How to recover the rent from the bad tenant? I've got a tenant who used to rent my investment property. The rent was not managed by an agent, instead it was managed by her friend (my aunty). The tenant left the premises when she & her husband brought their new property. Thank God they left. She breached the Tenancy Agreement in many ways, i.e did not pay rent on time, have had some 7-10 people stay in the house (only allow to have 5), upset the neighbours, etc. She did not pay any rent for 4 months (I was in overseas & could do nothing much). When they left, they damaged the walls, took away the kitchen knobs, garden water features, etc. Really really bad behaviours. They promised they will pay for the outstanding rent (about $5,000). However, it's 4 months since they left & I've received nothing from them. WHAT SHOULD I DO? Is there any way to recover the rent? $5,000 is a lot of money & they way they left the premises was bad.
Easiest way to install water feature fountain electrics? I want to know the easiest and safest way of installing the electrics for an outdoor water feature. I was thinking of drilling a hole through the wall and feeding the wire through the wall and plugging it into the socket inside my house, but i understand the circuit has to be protected by a rcd device? Will it be ok to feed the wire through the wall to the inside and use an rcd plug into the socket then plug the fountain in via the rcd? If not please explain the easiest way of installing the fountain electrics because i am very stupid with DIY and don't understand much, so no complicated answers please. Clearest answer will get best answer. thanks
How much weight can the average floor hold? It has a crawl space below. Floors are hard wood if that makes any difference and the house was built in the late 70s/early 80s and is in very good condition. I'm wanting to put in a water feature for my turtle. I think the container would be fine weightwise but am a bit concerned about the surrounding "wall" for it. Thanks!
How can I put a waterfall against an ugly, grey brick wall? About six months ago, our neighbors decided they want to hire the cheapest labor possible to build this ugly grey brick wall. I mean this is not only ugly grey, but it appears that these people had never built a brick wall before. Needless to say, it's not going anywhere. Right now it's just grass, a lemon tree on the left side, and the wall. So I wanted to pretty it up with a water feature with boulders, a waterfall, and a koi pond. But how do I do this tropical effect without it looking awkwardly out of place with the bricks behind it? To clarify, I have about 12-13 feet against the wall I could put the water feature along without uprooting a treasured lemon or kumquat tree. Plants or planters could be built behind those. I would also say I'm willing to come away from the wall 7, maybe 8 feet.
Are you a WATER FEATURE pro? If so, I am wanting to make a feature with 3 panels at different hights and with the Sheet decents so it trickels down the rock wall, (measuring from ground to top) one panel at 1.6m one at 1.5m and the highest panel around 1.8m... Could I make this out of besser blocks?? or bricks? Or has any one else got a good cheap idea??
On the TV series monster house they built a zen house? I have been trying to find out where they got the wall sculpure of a lotus that they used for a water feature
Repost bec. I Accidentally Deleted: How does one replace an electrical receptacle with a combo Switch/Outlet? Electrician Please:Thanks those who answered earlier & got deleted accidently.... There is now a normal electrical outlet in the wall & I want to replace it with the Leviton Switch/Outlet. I have an indoor water feature that does NOT have an on/off switch on the device. I must reach behind the water feature & plug it in to turn on & unplug it to turn it off. For this problem, I was sold the Switch / Outlet from H. D. & was told directions for install was in the box. I can't make out the directions. I would like to leave the water feature plugged in at all times and to be able to turn the water feature on/off at the combo outlet's switch. I dont need a GFCI. How do I install the Switch/Outlet? I have only a "small" amount of knowledge with electrical; although, I have changed out outlets before & have installed dimmers and ceiling fans on my own.Below is a corrected link for a description & photo of the switch/outlet: http://www.leviton.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpItmDspRte.jsp?a=b&item=9548
How do I tile shower walls when existing fiber glass shower-tub is removed and metal tub is put in its place.? How do we make sure the walls will be water proofed before we install the tile? What's the best tile to use (size) and other features?

Garden Gnome collectors. Slave masters of the underworld? Many many nights I have lain dripping in sweat pondering the answer to this question.Small plastic/pottery figures in the garden...Is this a front for what really goes on behind the chince curtains? Pentagrams scratched on the wall, sacrifices to the dark lord Pan,dancing naked over flickering fires chanting evil mantras of sin? Or just harmless, lovely old ladies that like a splash of colour next to the water feature? Who owns these figurines of dubious intent? and why? Are garden centres all over the planet blissfully unaware that they may be retailing the very icons of a dark satanic sect? Is a 'Gnome' with a 'fishing rod' really a juju harvester of the souls of the lost, cast into the firey firmament? Are gardens sullied by the filth of these pottery/plastic demons or am I in need of a short break in Majorca with a busty 25 year old swedish model?

QUADRATIC FUNCTION HELP! PLEASE EXAM TOMOROW? I dont understand this question 'A water feature is placed on a wall in the garden such that the water follows a parabolic path, shown in the diagram. The equation of the path is given as h = -d^2 + 2.7d + 1.6d, where h is the height of the water above the ground and d is the distance of the water from the wall.' How high is the water feature above the ground? i got this right i think, i made d = 0 so h = 1.6 At what distance from the wall does the water reach the ground? how do i do it? -d^2 + 2.7d + 1.6 = 0 ? Calculate the maximum height reached by the water? thankyou Yea sorry its not meant to be 1.6d

Can someone help me design a garden on my gravel patch....? We have a sunken hole we want to turn into a 'garden' of some kind. ...the land is very high at the rear of our house so its basically just a big hole in the ground with scrubby grass sides! NOT very pretty - we work from home so expect to have lots of visitors this summer - here are photos - http://myauctionpix.com/membertemplate.php?a_id=1321&bg_id=25....it has to stay gravelled as its also drainage for the whole garden/paddock that slopes into it (thats the concrete well on the right ) - under the gravel is drainage pipes - I'd love a paved area for a gazebo & maybe some kind of water feature - maybe also an american style stone BBQ table with seating area etc - we have a TON of stone as you can see so we can build walls and all sorts for nothing - if you have any ideas i would be grateful as i have NO idea what to do with this area? ( btw - the patio will have wooden rails in a few days so that wil be more 'finished' too....thankyou so much - i really need some inspiration !

what is the best way to get my landscaping business off the ground? I started it a few days ago. So far, ive had a couple jobs from just asking around. Which is not bad. I wish there was more. or am I using the wrong terminology? When I think of landscaping, i think of water features, flower beds, rock walls, fish ponds, arbors, etc. Not mowing your lawn for $25. I dont want to mow. Well, i will mow if the job needs to be mowed but i am not there to mow the lawn and burn off. That i think is for the kids saving for a skateboard. Is there a better term for what I am wanting to do? How do I get people to know I am here so that they will call me?
I need ideas for raising funds/donations to save an architectually significant home destined for demolition.? This custom home was built only twenty years ago but when the single-owner died in 1999 it was abandoned. The house is a one-of-a-kind, contemporary marvel, absolutely stunning inside with Frank Llyod Wright features. However, years of neglect has left it in very poor shape. Standing water has caused major water damage; mold and mildew on ceiling and walls. The grounds have not been maintained and are overgrown and compromising the structure. I need to raise money to buy the home and restore it. I'm looking to raise $150,000. I need your ideas and suggestions.
What is the name of a surreal painting involving a redhead girl with invisible clothes, burning books and ice? The redhead is sitting in the center of a room with two open books, one featuring a drawing of a statue's head with leaves as hair, resembling the girl. A large version of this statue head is in the hallway to the left with a window looking out on an urban setting with half its face blocked by a fireplace. Fire has escaped and are buring books next to the two the girl is reading. The hallway to the right is being flooded with water from an ocean carrying a large ship in the distance. On the right side of the painting is a bookcase covering the wall, containing many books, three of which have visible titles ("Decameron", "Symboles" and "L'Habit De Cheval"). On the left another version of the girl is standing with her hands behind her back looking in the direction of ice in the form of very small mountains turning into rocks (in the room), with water flowing into the room and a large balloon carrying plants in the distance. On the exteme left, inside the room is a large bare tree.
Dream analysis thanks! Serious detailed replies only? I saw my sis painting an orange car with rust pockmarks with white paint then i came over to help, bcos it looked fun. When I started painting my father came over, and said its a birthday present for my younger cousin bro. I realised it was a humvee, my dream car. So emotion welled up; bcos i wanted it and that (for that dream) my dad dint give me a present during my birthday and is now giving it to my cousin(of all ppl) when it should be me. I cried there and then refusing to paint; but they ignored me and kept on painting. Next i found myself in a corporate enviroment, those halls of buildings where you first step in, glass walls with strong pillars and inside water features. Many people surrounded me happy in my presence. I quickly found my right hand man(who was a first class citizen in my country-i am not) who complied to me, i wanted my father out of this life. And found another(also first class) who agreed to remove all his property. Then i went out with my friends. The dream ended with me taking my mom and gf away and leaving my father to ponder over his bigotry. Poor and alone. But he was not broken in that dream. I was sad it had to end that way. First class citizens. e.g in Aus, caucasians get most benefits while the asians there(second class) are trailling behind. For my country, things like that still do exist. First class citizens. e.g in Aus, caucasians get most benefits while the asians there(second class) are trailling behind. For my country, things like that still do exist. It was like, i was sad in the end because i felt the male authority figure was small minded... we could all be rich but you chose to suppress, now you are made poor kind of thing.

I want to build a indoor dog water trough, any ideas? Hey! I have a wall in my kitchen that needs something, and I have many dogs as I run a rescue for them. I thought of building an indoor watering trough that filters and circulates the water, while also having a fountain at either end to add an aesthetically pleasing feature as well. I can get foutain pumps, to circulate, but I'm wanting to add a filter to it. I'm also at a loss for what to use for the actual basin itself. I'm looking for something about 1-1 1/2 feet wide, and about 3 foot in length. Anyone got any ideas? I'm not very creative when it comes to this stage in the game... Thank you so much!
Is there a water proof, food safe glue or epoxy I could use on plastic and rubber? I have some acrylic containers that hold dry foods/candies that the flap lids have broken off of. Getting new ones is not an option, so I wanted to know if I could glue them. I've tried Crazy Glue/Super Glue types of glue but they're not water proof when hand washed. I also have some blender canister rubber lids that have the little clear plastic top piece that you can remove to pour stuff in as it blends. We don't use this feature and a few of them no longer have the knobs that lock the cap into the lid. I wanted to glue these together so I don't have to keep pulling appliances away from the wall to get the piece that falls out and rolls under. Again, these would be hand washable.
I just painted my lounge and the paint has cracked? I used Wickes Matt Emulsion and painted over the previously painted shiny walls. I sanded down all the walls with a course and medium sandpaper as well as the washed the walls down with warm water and left them to dry over night. The paint was fine the first coat and didn't crack, I then left the pain overnight to dry and put on the second coat which looked fine to start with then over night it cracked all over but is it a lot worse with much deeper and more visible cracks in certain areas. My concern is that I painted one wall with Dulux Matt Emulsion, as a feature wall and this wall (treated in the same way with the same original paint) was perfectly fine with absolutely no sign of cracking. Can someone please let me know firstly why the paint has cracked and it it is to do with Wickes and their paint and secondly how can I get rid of it? I tried sanding the walls down and repainting it, it didn't work, I tried a thicker coat of pain and a thinner coat of paint thinned down with water) and none of this helped or made it worse. Can some please help me :(
Help with designing a museum etc.? As the first step for my art project, I need to have designed a museum, but I can't think of a good design or topic for one. Here are some examples of what my friends designed: a cloud museum shaped like a cloud, an aquarium museum shaped like a submarine, and so on. Any ideas or suggestions for what I could design? I'm sorta clueless.. After I did that I have to either design a logo, cover of a book, repeat pattern for walls, costume, stained glass window, water feature, or outdoor eating area for the museum, using up about 10 pages of process work. Please help, Thanks in advance
Feng shui question .....? I'm interested in getting a simple water feature for my garden. I live in a terraced house with a straight path down from the front door to the road. As you stand on the threshold looking out you are facing East North East and there is a small square of garden to your left about 10 foot square containing shrubs, etc. Below this there is an open tarmacked area running down to the road on which we park the car. The driveway and path are totally open to the road, no hedge or wall. Any suggestions for where we should position a water feature?
Pond Help - green stuff!? Hi there, I recently moved house and there is a v small garden pond (maybe 2ft x 3ft and 1ft deep). There is a little waterfall which drops water from a small pipe in the wall into the pond below. Now this has been switched off for probably 9 months while there was nobody living here. There's a thick layer of green cress-like stuff on the top of the water. Should I clear the green stuff off and clear the dead leaves out of the bottom (as much as possible)? Switch the water feature on and hope it filters? Or get someone in to deal with this professionally? Also, once rectified, do these ponds need the water switched on all the time to run efficiently, or can they be left off? Thanks so much for your time and help! :) Lisa
Help...What should I do with this ugly pond? I bought a house (in Peoria, AZ) and it came with a half finished pond in the front yard. The THANG looks UGLY!... See photos here: http://www.cnw.com/~ulicip/Pond/index.html Any ideas what I could do with it? I thought about a few choices: 1) Cover the waterfal steps with flat stone (slate? or whatever they call it) Do the same with the pond wall 2) take out waterfall and replace it with a water feature in the middle (some kind of water fountain thing that sprays water) 3) Take out the whole thing and replace it with a small birdbath and plant some trees there for shade. Any suggestions? I actually like the idea of having some fish there, but I'm worried about the costs btw... the neighbors are begging me to get rid of it.
How to make a small rain curtain? I bought a Mexican Clay Chimena (i think thats how you spell it) well heres a picture.... http://www.argos.co.uk/wcsstore/argos/images/37-3450451MMA71UC564794M.jpg but anyways i was planning on making it into a waterfountian instead of a fireplace. I want water to drip down from the inside like a rain curtain or a wall water fountain like this one.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgLQ4gHHb8g&feature=player_embedded but really small. Does anyone out there know how to make one?
tenants rights, what can i do? ok here goes! ive been living in a property now for 8weeks and despite having several problems and them being short term fixed i have a few questions that i need answers for but don't know where to turn! as we have had such a bad winter the maisonette im living in is like and indoor water feature! its a 2 bed ground floor with 4 people and 2dogs living in it. the day we moved in was the day the problems started, we had noticed that the windows in all bedrooms and living room had steamed up then after a few days the water just started pouring from the windows (like it was raining on the inside), i tryed several things like window seal de huminidfiers, table salt pots, wiping them down daily, but nothing seems to work. weve even opened windows when the kids are in another room but even that dont clear them. waking up to puddles on the window seals has become a pain as it started dripping onto the floor so ive now got bath towels on all the window seals! due to the water inside the front door and also the porch door had started to swell so the land lord had come round on several occasions and shaved the wood down so the door could shut! so come the summer the doors will now swing open!!!! the most worrying thing of all is the mould! when pulling the sofa out the whole wall and back of the sofa was covered in mould as well as a book unit i have to! the mould was black, green, white, red and fluffy so had been there a while. i informed the land lord who advised to clean with bi carbonate of soda. same happened in the wardrobe the botom of it plus everything inside was also blanketed with mould. After removing a coat also from the porch the coats were also covered in mould and several items had been so damaged they had to be thrown away. since cleaning all of this the mould has returned and is now starting to damage the property to which the land lord is aware. The agent and landlord advised to use a de humidfier which we have done but un fortunatly it has not worked! when i took the agreement out it was with an agent, i wouldnt acecept a contract without one as and agent is extra security if anything goes wrong and i cant contact the landlord (which has happened several occasions) as of yesterday the landlord had sacked the agents which im extreamly not happy about! i expressed my feelings to the landlord who said that i could move out if he had another tenenat moving in. when i asked when i could moved he simply said " i dont know when someone else wants to move in you can move out" he seems to think that the estate agents will find him a new tenant despite sacking them?!!! what id like to know is if i have any rights in getting out of the tenancy, i signed the tenancy with the agent not with the landlord and now the agent is no longer nothing to do with it is the tanancy still legal! just to clarifiy i have also had environmental health in who are monitoring the state of the property and trying to contact the land lord to help but again he will not answer the phone. sorry for the klong post but i dont know what to do or where to go. thank you
How to build a terrarium? I have a 45 gal hex (corner) aquarium that I would like to turn into a terrarium. Id like to do tropical, not desert like. I may eventually add a lizard, but that is undecided. So, where do i begin? What do I need to know? What plants work best? Where do I find the plants and supplies? Where can I find a rock wall, or how to create one? What are my options as far as critters to live in it? (keeping in mind that I do not want a water feature in tank) but a small water dish-like thing would be ok. The tank gets a good amount of indirect sunlight, do I still need special light bulbs? What are some common "problems" that I should be aware of as to avoid? Thanx in advance!

Cell organelle analogies for a golf course? I have a biology project that requires me to use 12 cell organelles to construct a mini-golf course. It must be connected & I have to state why I used that organelle. For example, the vacuole could be the water feature, or the endoplasmic reticulum could have a tube that transports the golf ball to another location. 1. cell membrane 2. vesicle 3. nucleus 4. nucleolus 5. nuclear envelope 6. endoplasmic reticulum 7. Golgi apparatus 8. mitochondria 9. microtubules 10. microfilaments Depending on which cell I choose to base it on (plant or animal) I would either add: 11. cell wall 12. chloroplast or 11. centriole 12. lysosome
As an architectural feature, is it feasible to grow a tree upside-down? Designing something for architecture studio, and the thought of an upside down tree came up. Is this feasible (i.e. growing a tree from the ceiling)? I mean, grass roofs and grass walls are already in use. The only things that would be added would be a solid planter, a tight mesh to keep the soil suspended, a drain to remove waste water, and UV lights pointing up.
Tokio Hotel Family: Wolrd Behind My Wall performance + Interview? ....This one completely stumps me. I'm convinced it's playback, it sounds identical to the recorded version but idk because it's just so hard to believe it is because Bill is lip syncing it so....perfectly? He isn't doing his over exaggerated dance moves & he isn't holding the mic like he usually does when they're doing playback. His facial expressions aren't over the top.....his mouth matches the words perfectly.....HAS THIS GUY BEEN TAKING LIP SYNCING LESSONS?! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWBioUIH3Dk&feature=player_embedded I also realllllly like what Bill's wearing :] Especially the shoes :D P.S There was also an interview http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQeO45arkVg Just me or does it look like Gustav has lost weight? It might be the hair but idk. He looks thinner. & Tom with the water at 4:49 - 4:51 made me lol Poll: What'd you think of this Performance? Do you think it's playback or live? Led Zeppelin Rulez - Lol, a LOT of TH fans think it's live simply because Bill isn't going crazy xD
skirting in bathroom is it a good idea or not? I have tiled my bathroom all of it apart from 1 wall which we intended to have as a feature wall. the wall tiling is white and the floor tiles are black. the wall we left untiled we wanted to have as black wallpaper with white skirting borad. i was speaking to my friend who is a builder and he said its not realy ideal to put skirting board down over tiles as water will get under the skirting and go mildewy causing it to smell. is he right is this not something that shouldnt be done in a bathroom or could i not just seal it with silicone or something so that water doesnt get under there? any hints and tips would be very welcome.
Who would like to check some of these out? Advertisement 21 candidates for new Wonders of World list 18/11/2006 7:39:00 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Printer-friendly page GENEVA, Switzerland (AP) - Here are descriptions of the 21 candidates in the "New 7 Wonders of the World" competition. The public may vote at www.new7wonders.com. Acropolis, Greece: A million people come here each year to see the marble temples - including the ruins of the columned Parthenon - and statues of Greek gods and goddesses dating from the fifth century BC. Alhambra, Spain: The palace and citadel, perched above Granada, was the residence of the Moorish caliphs who governed southern Spain in splendour until 1492, when the city was conquered by the Christian forces of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, ending 800 years of Muslim rule. Stunning features include mosaics, arabesques and mocarabe, or honeycomb work. Angkor, Cambodia: The archeological site in Siem Reap was the capital of the Khmer (Cambodian) empire from the ninth to 15th centuries. It served as administrative centre and place of worship for a prosperous kingdom that stretched from Vietnam to China and the Bay of Bengal. The 12th-century ruins include Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. Christ Redeemer Statue, Brazil: The 38-metre statue of Christ the Redeemer with outstretched arms overlooks Rio de Janeiro from atop Mount Corcovado. The statue was built in pieces in France starting in 1926, and shipped to Brazil. A railway carried it up the 714-metre mountain for the 1931 inauguration. Colosseum, Italy: The 50,000-seat amphitheatre in Rome was inaugurated in AD 80. Thousands of gladiators duelled to the death here, and Christians were fed to the lions. The arena has influenced the design of modern stadiums. Easter Island, Chile: Hundreds of massive stone busts, or Moais, are all that remains from the prehistoric Rapanui culture that crafted them between 400 and 1,000 years ago to represent deceased ancestors. Some statues are over 20 metres tall. They gaze out on the south Pacific Ocean more than 1,600 kilometres off the Chilean mainland. Eiffel Tower, France: The 300-metre tower, built in 1889 for the International Exposition, symbolizes Paris. Made almost entirely of open-lattice wrought iron and erected in only two years with a small labour force, the tower - Paris's tallest structure - demonstrated advances in construction techniques, but some initially criticized it as unesthetic. Great Wall of China: The 6,700 kilometre barricade running from east to west is the world's longest manmade structure. The fortification was built to protect various dynasties from invasion by Huns, Mongols, Turks and other nomadic tribes. Construction took place over hundreds of years, beginning in the seventh century BC. Hagia Sophia, Turkey: The soaring cathedral, also called the Church of Holy Wisdom, was built in 537 BC at Constantinople, today's Istanbul. In 1453, when Constantinople fell to the Ottomans, it became a mosque with minarets. When Turkish President Kemal Ataturk turned it into a museum in 1935, Christian mosaics covered up by the Muslims were revealed. Kiyomizu Temple, Japan: Kyoto's Kiyomizu-dera, which means Clear Water Temple, was founded by a Buddhist sect in 798 and rebuilt in 1633 after a fire. Drinking from its three-stream waterfall is believed to confer health, longevity and success. Kremlin and St. Basil's Cathedral, Russia: Onion domes with golden cupolas surrounded by red brick walls are at the heart of Moscow's Kremlin, a medieval fortress converted into the centre of Russian government. The Kremlin once symbolized Soviet communism. The Cathedral of St. Basil the Blessed on adjacent Red Square features nine towers of different colours. It was built by Czar Ivan the Terrible in the mid-16th century. Machu Picchu, Peru: Built by the Incan Empire in the 15th century, Machu Picchu's walls, palaces, temples and dwellings are perched in the clouds at 2,400 metres above sea level in the Andes overlooking a lush valley 500 kilometres from Lima. Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany: The inspiration for the Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland, Neuschwanstein is a creation of "Mad King" Ludwig II of Bavaria, who had it built in the 19th century to indulge his romantic fancies. Perched on a peak in the Bavarian Alps, the grey granite castle rises to towers, turrets and pinnacles and contains many paintings with scenes from Richard Wagner operas admired by Ludwig. Petra, Jordan: This ancient city in southwestern Jordan, built on a terrace around the Wadi Musa or Valley of Moses, was the capital of the Arab kingdom of the Nabateans, a centre of caravan trade, and continued to flourish under Roman rule after the Nabateans' defeat in AD 106. The city is famous for water tunnels and stone structures carved in the rock, including Ad-Dayr, "the Monastery," an uncompleted tomb facade that served as a church during Byzantine times. Pyramid at Chichen Itza, Mexico: This step pyramid surmounted by a temple was part of a sacred site in an important Mayan centre on Mexico's Yucatan peninsula. It is built according to the solar calendar. Shadows at the fall and spring equinoxes are said to look like a snake crawling down the steps, similar to the carved serpent at the top. An older pyramid inside features a jade-studded, red jaguar throne. Pyramids of Giza, Egypt: The only surviving structures of the original seven wonders, the three pyramids were built as tombs for pharaohs 4,500 years ago. Nearby is the Great Sphinx statue, with a man's face and a lion's body. Statue of Liberty, New York: The 93-metre statue in New York Harbor has welcomed immigrants and symbolized freedom since 1886, when it was dedicated as a gift of the French government. Stonehenge, Britain: How and why this circular monument of massive rocks was created between 3,000 and 1,600 BC is unknown, but some experts say the stones were aligned as part of a sun-worshipping culture or astronomical calendar. Today it is a major tourist attraction. Druids and New Age followers gather here every June 21 to celebrate summer solstice. Sydney Opera House, Australia: Situated on Bennelong Point reaching into Sydney's harbour, the opera house was designed by Danish architect Jorn Utzon and opened in 1973 by Queen Elizabeth. Its roof resembles a ship in full sail and is covered by over one million white tiles. The building has 1,000 rooms. Taj Mahal, India: The white marble-domed mausoleum in Agra was built by a 17th-century Mogul emperor for his favourite wife, who died in childbirth. The architecture combines Indian, Persian and Islamic styles. The complex houses the graves of the emperor, his wife, and other royalty. Timbuktu, Mali: Two of West Africa's oldest mosques, the Djingareyber, or Great Mosque, and the Sankore mosque built during the 14th and early 15th centuries, can still be seen here in the northern Sahara Desert. Founded about AD 1,100, Timbuktu was a flourishing caravan centre in the Arabic world and a leading spiritual and intellectual centre in the 15th and 16th centuries, with one of the world's first universities. It is a bit long... My appologies, but there are some interesting sights. P.S. I got the info off MSN.

I'm writing a book and I need some crituqe? Sakura was in a dark place. Where am I? she wondered. She was surrounded by water, It kept getting deeper and deeper. What’s going on? She couldn’t remember anything. How did she get here? The water was up to her hips now. Panic began to arise. "Help! is anybody there?!" There was no response, only silence. The water was at her chest. She began screaming, her screams echoing off the walls. The water was creeping up towards her face now. Thrashing her legs and struggling, she tried to stay above the water. She gasped for air, "Somebody!!!". She began to get tired. No! She couldn't give up, not yet. Finally she was under completely, Her lungs burned for air. She opened her mouth, realizing her mistake it was too late. She slowly sank as the world around her began to go black. She saw a man standing on the water. He had Blond hair that swooped down over his right eye. His dark green eyes burned in to her. As though he were trying to read her soul. She tried to reach out to him. She couldn’t understand, why wasn’t he helping her? He began laughing at her struggles and started walking away. Everything went black after that. She awoke in a cold sweat. What was that?! who was he?! His laughter was still ringing in her ears. Sakura finally realized she was safe in her bed. It was just a nightmare, that’s all, she told herself. What a strange dream though. Her clock read 5:36 am. I'll never get back to sleep now, she told herself. May as well get up and get ready for school. As she stepped into the shower, she felt afraid. The water scared her. Relax she told herself, It was only a nightmare. But she couldn't get over those dark green eyes. Who was he? She stepped out of the shower, grabbed a towel and went to her room. She got dressed and blow-dried her hair. She went over to her mirror and stared at herself. She was pretty. There was no doubt about that. Her light brown hair flowed naturally past her shoulders. It was straight with a bit of a wave. Her startling blue eyes were one of her best features. She had a great figure. She smiled, she was content with herself. She checked her clock again. It was only 7:28. She'd walk to school early she decided. It is just a rough draft, and I do appreciate the crituqe. I am just beginning to write, so I'm not quite used to it. I will change a lot of things. I just picked the name Sakura, because i like japanese names. I'll probably change that too.

What is the term for this type of decorative feature? I tried seacrhing it up on google, but I didn't find what I was looking for. This was probably beacuse I couldn't figure out a proper search topic. I am looking for a term which describes the use of running water as an aesthetic for the indoors. Sort off like an indoor fountain or water wall, but more exaggerated to involve small man made streams that run through out the building; or small water falls attached to the walls. Basically, an indoor decorative design, which is very water centric. Nothing that involves paintings of rivers or lakes. To understand the gist of what I am saying, try looking watching a few videos of, the videogame, Bioshock (2) and take a look at the designs. Here is one of those videos to save you the trouble of searching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvB6ybMxyag&NR=1 ; at around 0:43 up. Yes, I know the whole place is flooded but most the water there looks like it’s for decorative use. ny other videogame would surfice, they all have these wierd architectures. Another question, is this style practical, or has it been used in any real life structures?

A frog mystery......? My parents have found a small brown frog in the "water feature" of their back garden. (By water feature I mean a 10 inch figure of some kind of nymph pouring water into a small bowl , about 5 inches in diameter....it´s tiny and it´s hidden in the corner of a tiny garden) They live in a terraced house with a walled back garden in the middle of a large city.... literally miles from any lakes, rivers or waterways. It´s a complete mystery where he came from. Any ideas how the frog got there?? My sister reckons a bird could have dropped some frogspawn....but it´s a bit of a coincidence that it ended up in the miniscule bowl ....?
Someone edit my work? With a running time of nearly four hours, Cecil B. De Mille's last feature before his death and most extravagant movie is full of the excitement that one might expect. The movie is filled with action and adventure, from each scene like when Moses parts the Red Sea it’s filled with action as thousands of newly freed slaves cross the dry land as huge walls of water on either sides of them. But nothing comes close to the dancing, celebrating, and drinking on Mount Sinai while Moses, is gone for 40 days getting the 10 commandments.
Small indoor garden animals? I have a very small garden in a standard 20 gallon (75.708 liters). There will be different types of herbs grown in it with a fluorescent light and rich soil. I want to liven it up with one or more small animals that could make the soil rich and give off CO2 for the plants. I also don't want it crawling up the glass walls and escaping into my death trap for a room... that would be bad. What would work? Worms? Crabs? Bugs? Geckos? I am very open to types of animals to put in it if it can be well suited in something like this: http://s188.photobucket.com/albums/z74/Burntwave/?action=view&current=Snapshot_20091011.jpg I can add a water feature or a water dish for the animal. What would I feed an animal and what would it need to thrive? Could it eat the future herbs and vegetables? Thanks in advance, but if nothing is okay to put in it, that is fine. I don't want to endanger someone.
I have a great idea for my room, but I need some tips. (Teen design)? I want a very forest, misty, style. I'm technically designing my dream room. I definitely plan to use water fixtures/fountains, and plants, but it has to be serene and calming. I plan to have a twin sized bed suspended on the wall, horizontally. So I guess what I asking for are your best recommendations. Does anyone have some websites that feature this style? Thanks ahead of time!
My cousin is going to turn a unused bedroom into a habitat for his snake? He paid off his mortgage years ago. What all would he do? It is a rather large python but I can't remember what species. She is really large. He wants to put a window facing the living room and set up the whole room with branches, rocks, and some kind of water feature (He has a really good job and can afford this). I'm sure that there is some other stuff he would need to do to the walls, floor, and ceiling for cleaning and to keep humidity from ruining the rest of the house. He will also have lights put in for the snake to bask. Has anyone done his before? How much did it cost you in the end?
