Wall Water Features

water feature built into hill?

Hi, I'm working on a project and doing some precedent research. Does anyone know of a water feature that has been built into the topography of a hill so that it forms a wall where water is poured from the top onto the ground like a waterfall almost but the water is directed off to the side so that people can walk underneath it. I've found this one but it is not built into a natural hill: http://dpricejr.blogspot.com/2007/12/greenville-sc.html This would have to be for more of a park setting. If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them, Thanks! I'd also like to direct some excess water from the hill into a channel after it comes down to irrigate a small piece of land, probably from what overflows from the retention area of the water feature, but I've heard concerns that this would be difficult because as of now the hill has mostly sheet runoff. It is on the long side of a drumlin with maybe a 15% slope. If a few quick channels in its side would be enough to redirect just a bit of the water I'd try this but only if it was simple and low cost. I know that's kindof vague but if anyone can make sense out of that I'd love your opinions.

  1. Lots of natural waterfalls pass over rock and erode a space beneath them where the water splashes back. Bridal Veil Falls in Heber Springs, Arkansas, comes to mind - but there are many others. As far as re-directing the water afterwards, a simple ditch should suffice.
