Wall Water Features

skirting in bathroom is it a good idea or not?

I have tiled my bathroom all of it apart from 1 wall which we intended to have as a feature wall. the wall tiling is white and the floor tiles are black. the wall we left untiled we wanted to have as black wallpaper with white skirting borad. i was speaking to my friend who is a builder and he said its not realy ideal to put skirting board down over tiles as water will get under the skirting and go mildewy causing it to smell. is he right is this not something that shouldnt be done in a bathroom or could i not just seal it with silicone or something so that water doesnt get under there? any hints and tips would be very welcome.

  1. You should have fitted the skirting first - would give a better finish. Can you not take the bottom tiles off and then fit a skirting and then trim and replace the bottom tiles, Much better I reckon. Will look silly and unprofessional having the skirting stuck on top of tiles, especially if one wall does not have tiles.
  2. using wood skirting on tile is not a good idea if there is a possibility of getting the floor wet. You may buy skirting tiles of the same pattern as the floor.
  3. The original idea behind skirting was to protect the wall from peoples shoes, if you think your walls are safe from scuffs, knocks and bumps then don't bother but i'd put one on
  4. use some 25mm quad instead..
