Why, how or from where do white precipitation/salt accumulates on sandstone/granite cladding in water features

also in the soft landsacpe areas

  1. Probably lime deposits from your water.
  2. Leeching of salts from the stone when wet. If there is mortar, it's the lime in the cement doing it. When you're ready to clean it, use a mild muriatic acid and water solution with a soft bristle brush. Allow to dry. You might then have to lightly dry-brush any remaining leechate. Apply a penetrating sealer with a pump sprayer; it won't change the appearance of the stone but will stop the leechate. Enviroseal is one company that makes a great sealer. I think Thompson's has one as well. It's a pretty simple job on a warm day.
