  1. Frogs are exothermic, meaning their body temperature is dependent on the outside temperature (unlike us, our bodies are always about 98.6 degrees, whether it's hot of cold outside!) Having a really cold body temperature means that the proteins and enzymes needed for life won't work.
  2. Frogs are cold-blooded, and have thin skin -- like we do. Therefore, it does not provide much insulation from the cold. To warm itself, it must be in a warm environment. The cold water causes the metabolism ( all the chemical reactions in the body) to slow down, and therefore the movement to slow down.
