Horse Trailer Shopping advice. click to see list of features I want in it. What trailer do u reccomend I buy?
I want to buy brand new, below is the list of features I would like the trailer to have. what do you suggest I buy that would have these? Or a very reputable trailer brand Features: 2 horse SLANT split door in back (2 sides that open instead of one big large door) divider that folds/closes into side of wall when using trailer as utility trailer Divider MUST be PADDED Divider between horses must be low enough mini can't run underneath sealed windows that open with screen (prefer drop down) light weight trailer no ramp for loading minimum 2 tie ups on each side of exterior to tie horses to diamond plating tall enough for 15 hh tanky quarter horse to fit in trailer roof vents, but not required rubber walls i like the butt chain across the back- some slants really do have this (its like the butt chains in straight loads, only its one long one to go across) lights that turn on in tack room and back for night loading at late rodeos and shows hanging tack organizer rack on tack room door briddle hooks locking doors on tack room and back doors tack room in front of trailer (don't like design with tack room in back) water tank in tank room easy access saddle rack feature where can close person in tack room for changing show clothes without getting locked in

- Sundowner has beautiful horse trailers. They may have one to fit all or most of your needs.
- Would you like a goose neck or bumper pull? I would start going to see trailers and jot down the ones you like. Aluminum trailers are lighter than steel and do not rust. You also may want to decide how much you want to spend as trailers can be relatively inexpensive or can be almost made of gold! A horse Expo or big horse show are fun places to see and compare trailers. Take your list with you. Do a search online. I have a Featherlight which I love, but there are Sooner, Sundowner, Trails West, and so many more out there. Trailer dealers are used to people with wish lists and they can build one to meet your needs, you just have to be willing to pay more for anything that is not standard. It may also take a while for them to build it if it is a special order. Take your time and feel each of the features and think about them in relation to your horse....will this rub? will that work, can I open it myself? Take a knowledgeable friend and have fun!
- I have a 2 horse feather lite slant bumper pull I got one that is as long as a 3 horse but they moved the tack room wall back one horse space to make it a 2 horse while giving me a large tack room that I had made into a living quarters. I also have a door that leads from the front tack room to the horse compartment. We put a kitchen counter across the front (where the trailer comes to a point) , there is a sink and faucet too, there are pine cabinets under the counter, inside the cabinets we have a large water tank on its side, hot water heater and a pump, on the wall opposite the tack room door, I have a 6 foot couch with a very large mirror above it. We wired the trailer for electric just like a camper, insulated it then paneled it. I also have a roof air conditioner/heater. I have wall to wall carpeting. We put a 15 inch flat panel TV on the wall above the kitchen sink. When I get to the show (I usually go to 3 day shows) and unload my horse and put him in the barn I sweep out the horse compartment and put a precut wall to wall indoor outdoor carpet down. I have a porta potty that goes back there. I put a bungie cord on the bars of my back door to the bars of the back window... this makes the door open and close very nicely. I also have a small refrigerator in the 2nd stall (I only haul 1 horse) This is a perfect set up for 1 person and 1 horse.. I hang all of my show clothes in the back. I put a folding lawn chair in the back. I come and go through the back door, this way I can take off my muddy or dusty shoes in the back before going to my living/kitchen in front. This is why the door that goes from the front to the back is so important. All slant loads have a rear tack because that corner of the trailer is empty space since the horses are slanted. You can also keep the tack in the front but then you would have stinky tack taking up the place you could have for a living quarters. The door you want on you tack room is called a camper door. It is a nice door and includes a screen door. Great for hot days when you electric is not hooked up for air. Roof vents over the horses are very important. Since heat rises the vents suck out the heat and keep your horses cooler I have several people come to me and ask to look in my trailer at every show because they thing it is neat to see how we put a living quarters in a small bumper pull!
- Your specifications are pretty common to all major brands. There used to be a lot a difference in quality of trailers, but not so much anymore. The price aluminum has gone through the roof, but I think all aluminum is the way to go. I like Hart trailers, but Jamco and Featherlite are pretty good. 4-Star is OK. I'm a little iffy on Sundowner, but it is all about personal preference. Major concerns should be the quality of the axles and the floor materials. I had a water tank in one of my trailers and it was a constant pain - algae growth and slime and so hard to keep clean I wouldn't use it for water for my horses, but you may be more accomplished at maintaining it. Look at a lot of trailers, there is a big difference.
- I highly recommend C & C trailers. I bought an '09 4 horse GN slant in October of last year (upgraded from a 2 horse Sundowner). I looked and compared many brands for months before I bought one. Love the features, the way it pulls, everything about it. Like it better than the Sundowner, Sooner, Featherlite and Exiss. It is a very well made trailer. My next trailer will be another C & C.
- Check out Keifer Built good trailers. I have a two horse very similar to the one you would like and have had great success with it.
- This is what I have now: Love this one too :-)http://www.travalong.com/freedomoutlaw/index.php?trailer=1&specs=1 This is what I had before: http://www.kieferbuiltinc.com/horse%20trailers/genesis.htm EXiss makes a nice one too. I LOVED the Kiefer.. fiberglass roof, HUGE dressing room, gooseneck. I owned Sundowner before that and would never own another! They give you nothing on trade-ins.
- You ought to be able to get all of that from just about any trailer brand. I recommend Sundowner or Featherlite.
- East 46 Trailers will make a trailer any way you like it
