Wall Water Features

How to build a terrarium?

I have a 45 gal hex (corner) aquarium that I would like to turn into a terrarium. Id like to do tropical, not desert like. I may eventually add a lizard, but that is undecided. So, where do i begin? What do I need to know? What plants work best? Where do I find the plants and supplies? Where can I find a rock wall, or how to create one? What are my options as far as critters to live in it? (keeping in mind that I do not want a water feature in tank) but a small water dish-like thing would be ok. The tank gets a good amount of indirect sunlight, do I still need special light bulbs? What are some common "problems" that I should be aware of as to avoid? Thanx in advance!

  1. I think it has to be air tight so I dont know about critters living in it. I might be wrong but I remember when I made one as a kid it waters itself which makes me assume that if it isnt air tight, the water will evaporate and dry up.
  2. Good ideal, but it could get tricky, if you want to introduce a lizard to your terrarium later you have to chose your plants wisely some plant are toxic to lizards. There are some plants that we eat that are very toxic to lizards Here is a link for that information. http://petcaretips.net/poisonous-plants-turtles-lizards.html Here is a list of Non-Toxic plants for lizards. http://www.geocities.com/chameleoncreatures/nontoxicplants.html If you just want a tropical terrarium you can include some rare plants. http://www.glasshouseworks.com/terrariumplants.html You might consider a desert terrarium. http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view?back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3Fp%3Ddesert%2Bterrarium%26fr%3Dslv8-%26ei%3Dutf-8%26x%3Dwrt%26y%3DSearch&w=600&h=448&imgurl=gallery.pethobbyist.com%2Fdata%2F32679TerrariumGesamtklein-med.JPG&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fgallery.pethobbyist.com%2F%3Fphoto%3D132325&size=54.1kB&name=32679TerrariumGesamtklein-med.JPG&p=desert+terrarium&type=JPG&oid=97102a9ab02ea080&no=1&tt=99&sigr=11cfvufia&sigi=11uqhao64&sigb=130sdq742 I know it is an overload of information, but you might check at a pet shop. You should be able to put together a wonderful terrarium. Better to be informed before you even start. Take your time, and you will enjoy it much more.
