Wall Water Features

Small indoor garden animals?

I have a very small garden in a standard 20 gallon (75.708 liters). There will be different types of herbs grown in it with a fluorescent light and rich soil. I want to liven it up with one or more small animals that could make the soil rich and give off CO2 for the plants. I also don't want it crawling up the glass walls and escaping into my death trap for a room... that would be bad. What would work? Worms? Crabs? Bugs? Geckos? I am very open to types of animals to put in it if it can be well suited in something like this: http://s188.photobucket.com/albums/z74/Burntwave/?action=view&current=Snapshot_20091011.jpg I can add a water feature or a water dish for the animal. What would I feed an animal and what would it need to thrive? Could it eat the future herbs and vegetables? Thanks in advance, but if nothing is okay to put in it, that is fine. I don't want to endanger someone.

  1. nice set-up you have. in my tub i have worms and bugs. the worms have multiplied so much that they practically Are the soil although u cannot see them unless u touch the soil. the bugs are rollie pollie pillbugs and love piles of organic debris like wood bark. rollie pollies are the only land crustacean. re other pets, maybe a tarantula will not climb glass but most everybody else will. i would not even be surprised if a turtle could get out unless he was very small because they can climb up on piles of stuff inside and are very persistant. a small turtle might take years to grow? but he Would eat your growing stuff. and probably would need supplemental food too. a hermit crab is a good idea. Whatever you are interested in, it is easy to see search their name with the words "how to care for". then u will be able to cross-check and see all details about their needs. to get a glass cover for the top is not too expensive. or lots of folks use a screen that fastens on since some Inhabitants can weasel under an unfastened glass. here is a pages of sites on how to make a pet terrarium: http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0oGky61VNJKuAwACsZXNyoA?p=how+to+choose+a+terrarium+pet about crickets, make sure u are someone who can stand constant noise, LOL. another way to get an idea is to go down to the pet store and see what they actually have.
